From Kitchen to Trading Desk: How A Trader Used Algorithmic Trading to Transform His Life

In today’s fast-changing world, many people are rethinking their careers and financial future amid industry disruptions like automation and economic instability. Traditional industries face automation, instability, and limited long-term growth. That’s exactly the journey of Garry, a veteran chef with nearly 20 years of experience in the F&B industry, who decided to step into the world of algorithmic trading—and eventually became an outstanding and profitable Algo Trader. This is one of the algorithmic trading success story from ea trading in Hong Kong.

This article shares Garry’s inspiring transformation—from a food & beverage career to building a sustainable passive income using EAs built for forex trading. It highlights the  practical path that algorithmic trading, risk management, and AI-driven tools like the AI Signals Page, showing how structured EA trading can empower anyone to achieve financial freedom.

Why He Chose a New Path: New Opportunities for a Second Career

Garry spent almost two decades working in the food & beverage industry. Although many people believe F&B is “stable,” the pandemic changed everything.

He witnessed:

  • Sudden job instability
  • Industry decline due to automation
  • Colleagues aged 60–70 still forced to work
  • Limited financial freedom despite years of experience

Automated cooking machines and centralized food production were replacing manual labor. The realization sparked his quest for a “second half” of life focused on generating passive income using forex trading and having more flexibility.

“I don’t want to become someone who has to work until old age with no control over my future.”

He wanted more:

  • A career not limited by physical labor
  • Time freedom
  • The ability to travel
  • A lifestyle supported by passive income

That’s when discovering Algo Forest Group (Algo Forest & Forex Forest) marked his turning point. As Hong Kong’s leading brand in algorithmic trading, it offered accessible forex trading courses using AI-driven tools without requiring any prior knowledge in investing or coding.

Why Algorithmic Trading (EA Trading) Made Sense

Garry emphasized that learning algorithmic trading was not an impossible dream:

“In the world of Expert Advisors and algorithmic trading, achieving the lifestyle I want isn’t that difficult. It’s something truly achievable.”

Before joining Forex Forest, he never studied investing , trading strategies , Metatrader 4 or how to do algorithmic trading formally. He only casually traded stocks, warrants, and bull/bear contracts—markets he found highly manipulated and volatile.

When he came across a Forex Forest ad, he recognized the brand immediately:

“Forex Forest was already the leading algo trading education provider in Hong Kong.”

He then enrolled in the flagship AI automated trading course and began his journey with a practical, education-first approach.

The Turning Point: Mastering Risk Management in EA Trading

One of the first lessons that changed his mindset came directly from Wayne Ng, founder of Algo Forest Group:

“Entering a trade is important—but exiting is even more important. Above all, it’s about money management.”

In the trading world, there are many quantitative investment strategies but Wayne teaches the Martingale Strategy. Many traders fear the Martingale strategy because they hear stories of blown accounts which happens when your trading account loses its’ entire capital. But Garry learned something crucial:

  • Every EA strategy has inherent risks.
  • Risk only becomes dangerous when you don’t know how to manage it.
  • With proper capital control, exit strategies, and diversification, even Martingale can be applied safely and predictably.
  • Executing trades should be based on data and not emotions.

“If everything is within your control, nothing is dangerous.”

Through the Forex Forest course, he practiced hands-on risk management using:

  • Demo accounts
  • Cent accounts
  • Real-market simulations

This gave him confidence to use EA strategies responsibly—not blindly.

Why He Chooses the SMA EA as His Main Passive Income Tool

Garry’s primary EA today is SMA, one of Algo Forest Group’s four signature algorithmic trading tools.

sma_expertadvisor

SMA is a trend-following strategy equipped with Smart Martingale Logic, designed to:

  • Ride stable market trends
  • Manage pullbacks intelligently
  • Grow accounts steadily with proper risk controls

He prefers running SMA on major USD pairs like:

  • EURUSD
  • GBPUSD

Why?

  • Strong liquidity
  • Predictable volatility
  • Ideal for trend-based Martingale strategies
  • Less erratic than pairs like JPY

Garry focuses on USD pairs like EURUSD and GBPUSD for their liquidity and predictability, avoiding overly stable (e.g., EURCHF) or volatile (e.g., JPY) options. By semi-automatically toggling EAs, managing lot sizes, and limiting accounts, Garry transforms Martingale EA risk management into reliable passive income forex. Always find the correct SMA EA strategy that works for you.

Forex Forest's four signature EAs (including SMA, Flash, MKD, and S10) provide versatile tools, but SMA's balance of aggression and control suits his travel-friendly lifestyle.

How the AI Signals Page Accelerated His Learning

A major breakthrough for Garry came from the AI Signals Page provided by Algo Forest Group—an internal performance dashboard that allows students to:

  • Understand how each EA performs
  • Study settings, parameters, and logic
  • See real-time trades (not for copy trading)
  • Learn how to optimize and configure their own EAs

He says it is much more convenient than MQL5 and helps beginners understand how the EAs behave in real market conditions.

Even though MQL5 allows users to copy signals in their platform, it is not as detailed and understandable as AI Signals Page. That is because MQL5 lacks any AI program to allow itself to generate a full report of the trading signal compared to AI Signals Page. This gives users of AI Signals Page more room to learn and understand how the Expert Advisor is performing from front to end.

Additionally, MQL5 does not allow demo accounts to be published as signals. This creates a barrier for beginners and experienced traders. Its’ learning environment consists primarily of “Black Box” expert advisors, where the internal logic and parameters of the EA are not visible to the user. This shows how much more accessible AI Signals Page is.

The AI Signals Page allows demo accounts, enabling both beginners and experienced traders to analyze data and test strategies without risking their capital. It also features “open box” expert advisors where the logic and parameters of the EA are transparent to the users. This clarity allows algorithmic traders to optimize their EAs easily and adapt them to different market conditions with more control.

“Signals Page makes learning easier. It’s far more convenient than MQL5.”

This education-first approach is what allowed him to use EA trading responsibly—and sustainably.

Why He Returned After Graduation: Giving Back to the Community

After graduating from FF28 batch, Garry didn’t just leave—he came back and served two years in the Forex Forest Alumni Association and continued as a successful and profitable algo trader.

Forex Forest has already reached more than 50 batches of students, and the alumni community plays a key role in supporting new traders[SC17] . No one needs to walk the algorithmic trading path alone. It proves Forex Forest is more than just courses, it’s a network of sustained success.

Garry has continued to perform algorithmic trading as of today and continues to generate passive income. He is now serving in Forex Forest as an advisor to those wanting to pick up algorithmic trading too.

Building a Freedom-Based Life Through EA Trading

Today, Garry’s dream is simple:

“I don’t need to be extremely wealthy. I just want to earn enough to live—and then travel the world freely.”

Through disciplined EA trading and risk management, he’s building a lifestyle where work is no longer a limitation.

His story proves that:

  • You don’t need a finance background
  • You don’t need to copy trade
  • You don’t need to take excessive risks

With the right guidance, algorithmic trading can become a structured, responsible, and sustainable source of passive income.
